A thyroid nodule: an area of decreased uptake on isotope scan.
A ΓÇÿcoldΓÇÖ area in the lobe of the thyroid is shown. This appearance is due to a mass. Cysts, however, also display diminished uptake and an ultrasound scan is therefore needed in order to differentiate between a cyst and a solid lesion.
